ABSTRACT
Institutional intelligence is a unique, innovative, and strategic structuring of Higher Education Institutions ( HEIs ) that apply and comply with the strategic directions and triad functions of universities ( teaching, research, and community engagement ( and serves as the direct focal points to identify the three best features expected to be seen in HEIs. In most institutions, the teaching aspect is in academics, research is through the Graduate School, staff development is through the Human Resources department, quality monitoring is through the Quality Assurance Unit while community service is either practiced but not given a priority or fulfilled when the situation demands. The authors explored the impact of applying institutional intelligence in advancing institutional differentiation and the application of innovative and strategic structuring of HEIs in pursuit of excellence. Incidences of gaps, duplications, overlapping of functions, scattered database, institutional metrics, and strategic analysis falling short of the right office to do the work happens when the institutional intelligence is not drawn out of the fore well. The authors studied successful HEIs with conspicuous institutional research or institutional effectiveness units/sections and came up with a formal portfolio ( as part of their findings ( that is carefully designed and planned for implementation (being strategic) to the credit and merit of the HEIs. Inspired by the concept of a strategic envelope, the scope of innovation efforts in universities is not far from reality. The authors highlighted effective strategies in sensationalizing institutional intelligence as a vital factor and missing recipe for strategic compliance and consequent institutional success. Based on authentic references, experiences, and empirical evidence, the authors presented salient knowledge and skills transfer and training tracks that will serve as a piece of initial information relevant to institutional intelligence.
